BBC Radio 5 & BBC News South London interviews on the benefits of a Grammar School in every town (21 February 2023)
I was interviewed this morning on BBC Radio 5 live and BBC News South London.
In the BBC Radio 5 Live interview I discussed:
* The merits of having a Grammar School in every town;
* How wealthier parents are able to purchase properties in better comprehensives – biasing children whose parents who are not as wealthy;
* How we do not have a socially equal society – the secondary comprehensive system doesn’t solve that;
* The fact that if we had more grammar schools, the competition for entry into these schools would be reduced. I’m for a system that educates a child to the full potential that they have – not just academic potential.
One of the problems in this country is that we do not have enough vocational and technical education options available for children who are talented in these areas.
In the BBC News South London interview, I discussed:
* The advantages of Grammar Schools,
* How comprehensives can be even more selective than Grammar Schools – based on parents ability to purchase property in better comprehensive school areas,
* Northern Ireland has more Grammar Schools per child, reducing the pressure for selectivity and the need for additional tutoring.
